To Gym Members and Patrons: It has been 4 years since the last increase in membership and day pass fees. After much deliberation, the CCC board has decided that as of July 1, 2005 membership rates will be $250 per year and day passes will be $15. We regret this increase but find it necessary in order to balance the budget – City Climbers does not make a profit, and the CCC Board members are volunteers. Here is a brief explanation for the increased costs: 1) We have been required by New York City to purchase our own insurance. 2) Payroll and accounting (for our small but dedicated staff) have been formalized and brought to standard regulations. 3) The gym floor and other structures required replacement and fixing. 4) New safety standards and inspections have been implemented. 5) Management has been re-organized. We believe the facility is cleaner and better equipped than ever before, and we have an entire new section of wall and a new floor. Routes are being stripped and replaced regularly, and we are opening the gym early two Saturdays each month for free technique classes and to provide members with greater opportunities for routesetting. We’re proud to remain the best climbing deal in town, and we hope that the increased rates will have a minimal impact on the friendly community that you help create and maintain.
